Paving Your Own Pathway

Chance Leon Allen (b. 2000 Orlando, FL) is a 20-year-old multi- disciplinary creative specializing in photography, film, and writing. He plans to obtain BA’s in Journalism and Media Studies at Mercer University in 2022. With his work, he seeks to educate and inform the masses on the intricacies of his two main identities: his queerness and his blackness.  

Allen is a lover of people, and a lover of love. He chooses to live each day intentionally with love, and strives to make love a safespace for everyone around him.

In 2020 Allen had a portrait exhibited in DASH x NewTown Macon’s Bright City exhibition. Entitled Sanctuary, the portrait dives into the meaning of spaces that he calls home, one which being the people and location within the photo.

In 2021 Allen became a photography intern for the NBC Entertainment west coast photography team, supporting them virtually through image sorting, selection, and processing.

A 2016 Mercer graduate specializing in portraits, his client list includes a U.S. President, a Grammy Award-winner, best-selling authors, world-renowned entertainers and professional athletes. His approach to speaking focuses leadership, stress management, and personal development. He’s presented at both TEDxSavannah in 2019 and TEDxMercer University in 2021. Additionally, he has worked with numerous organizations including Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and the Georgia High School Association. Whether it’s through original artwork, commissions, or keynote speeches, he uses the canvas of his life to inspire others to work tirelessly towards painting the life they love.

Hey girl, hey!

Danae Edmonds is a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan, Beyoncé lover and latte drinker. She spends a lot of her time creating her brand, Aspiring Co. and she is very passionate about uplifting and empowering women. She cares a lot about social media, design, women's issues, race issues, equality, empathy, and being a good human. Danae is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Inc. She's originally from South Jersey but calls Raleigh-Durham, NC home. Danae is also a three-time stroke survivor.

In her spare time, she is usually spending quality time with her family, dog, and friends, usually over coffee or drinks, OR she is at home binging some combination of Steven Universe, Golden Girls, and Real Housewives. In 2018 Danae quit her full time job to focus on her brand Aspiring Co. and to help small businesses get started by marginalized folx with graphic design and marketing needs. Danae's first book is slated to be in print in March 2022, and she is working with Wise Ink to publish Almost Finished: 75ish* Dreamchasers on Building Legacy, Taking Risks, and Giving Grace.

Jayla Moody fell in love with stories at a very early age. She was drawn to people and everything they were capable of. Through her work, she uses creative and innovative strategies to help people tell their stories and to use their stories to uncover their purpose. The Decatur, Georgia native is a writer, speaker, mentor, educator, and communications strategist. Jayla received her undergraduate degree from Mercer University in Macon, GA in Journalism and Global Development Studies and her master's degree from Georgia State University in communications and digital media strategies. Jayla has worked for local newspapers, NPR, broadcast television stations, non-profit organizations, and major entertainment brands Turner Broadcasting, Warner Media, and BET Networks. She has felt most at home though while in conversations, classrooms, and mentoring with students, helping them to find and take the next steps on their journey.

Jayla has built a storytelling brand, Joy by Jayla, that is designed to inspire others to find the intersection of their identity, their purpose, and their joy. She wrote her first ebook, Choosing Your Joy, in 2019 about the steps she took to work towards designing the life she wants. She also writes a weekly newsletter, Joy Story, which has grown into a community-safe space. She provides affirmations, books to read, and advice on life’s seasons. She also offers herself as a set of listening ears to whoever may need it. She has spoken at international conferences to over 100 people, graduations, and youth empowerment summits. She also hosts sessions and personal workshops on building vision boards, chasing your purpose, and choosing your joy.

As a budding psychologist, mental health practitioner, and a woman of faith and restorative justice, Koree S. Badio has embarked on a life-long commitment to foster and facilitate psychological liberation at the individual, group, and systemic level. Her personal and professional pursuit of mental wellness began back in 2017 when she founded Stand Together And Resist the Stigma or STARS, a student-led organization that aimed to de-stigmatize and normalize non-judgemental conversations about mental health within the Black community at Georgia State University. Presently, Koree organizes virtual peer support groups centered on Black women's holistic health and serves as the program coordinator for a mental health clinic at Emory University School of Medicine.

Moreover, In light of Koree's continued investment in mental health, she will resume her academic journey this upcoming fall as an incoming Ph.D. student in Counseling Psychology at the University of Florida. It is her greatest ambition to provide a healing space for underserved communities, and she hopes to utilize her expertise in Psychology to support an even bigger purpose- to promote the healing of humanity.

Moving Through Hospice & Grief

Sonji N. Brown, LCSW will be sharing her expertise and experience on the topic, “Moving Through Hospice and Grief”.

Sonji is currently a Lecturer for Georgia State University’s School of Social Work in the Field Education Department. Although born and raised in Flint, Michigan, she considers Georgia her home as she has lived here for 30-plus years.  She is married to her forever sweetheart and together they have 3 amazing children.  She is a licensed clinical social worker with experience in various social work roles including child welfare, adoption, hospice, therapy/counseling and community health.  As a native of Flint, Michigan, she has seen up close and personal what social injustice looks like, which has cultivated a strong interest in social justice issues related to race and gender.  She is a proud alumna of Georgia State University, earning both her M.S.W. and her B.A. in Psychology from the institution.  Her interests include reading, cooking, traveling and gardening.  Her newest hobby is using her garden herbs to make dried teas and infused cooking items such as salts, honey and olive oils.
